Learning in Reception

Our approach to learning in Reception classes, details of current projects and suggestions on how you can get more involved at home.

Our latest topic is ‘Under the Sea!’ (3rd June to 5th July 2019)
In this project, the children will experience stories and poetry.  We will read a range of pirate stories and will write our own pirate adventure.  The children will also listen to poems about the sea.
Some highlights of this topic will be
  • Under the Sea and pirate stories
  • Watching films about creatures that live under the sea and learning new facts
  • Singing Sea Shanties
  • Pirate Day! (Monday 1st July) – Children to come to school dressed as a pirate for the day! Please leave your swords at home!

Please join us on Friday 21st June at 2.15pm for our Parent workshop, we will be making shoebox fish tanks.  Please bring a shoebox for your child on the day and anything that they would like to put inside to decorate.

At the end of our Mud and ‘Mini beasts’ project we held a Bug Ball! We all dressed up as bugs and mini beasts and had a great time together.

During our ‘Chinese New Year!’ topic we tasted different foods and opened fortune cookies!
Pictures from our recent ‘Helpful Heroes’ topic, we held a parent’s workshop where we made emergency vehicles from junk modelling and had visits from the Fire Service, Police, Ambulance Service and Mountain Rescue Service.
