Learning in Reception

Our approach to learning in Reception classes, details of current projects and suggestions on how you can get more involved at home.

Our latest project is ‘Blast Off!’ (Monday 30th September to Friday 25th October 2019)

The children will develop their imagination through the topic of space.  We will pretend we are going to blast off in a rocket and visit the moon before returning home and telling all of our friends what we saw.

Throughout the topic we will have lots of highlights including;

  • Space rocket role play
  • Learning about different planets
  • Pretending to go to the moon – what would it feel like? What would we see?
  • Making our own rockets
  • Acting out the story of ‘Whatever Next?’
  • A visit from the Science Dome

At the end of our Mud and ‘Mini beasts’ project we held a Bug Ball! We all dressed up as bugs and mini beasts and had a great time together.

During our ‘Chinese New Year!’ topic we tasted different foods and opened fortune cookies!

Pictures from our recent ‘Helpful Heroes’ topic, we held a parent’s workshop where we made emergency vehicles from junk modelling and had visits from the Fire Service, Police, Ambulance Service and Mountain Rescue Service.
