Pastoral Care and Welfare
Hello! My name is Sue Miles.
I’m the Pastoral Care Worker and Assistant Inclusion Leader, here at Stanley Green Infant Academy, providing pastoral care and support to the children and their families in our school community. At Stanley Green we believe emotional well-being is extremely important and my role involves giving time to listen and talk with any child who is experiencing a difficulty affecting them either emotionally, physically, psychologically or socially.
This may be a problem occurring either at home or school and may be caused by issues such as bereavement, family break up, conflict/friendship issues, medical condition, anger management or anxiety problems.
Children can self refer by asking to see me and coming to find me in the Stars Room. Referrals can also be made by a teacher or their parent. If any parent/carer is concerned about their child, please contact the office or catch me in the playground each morning to arrange an appointment. Children can talk confidentially to me in the Stars Room.
Resources are available to help pupils with their problems with follow-up work if needed, such as anger management and conflict resolution. This may include group work to help pupils improve their social skills or specific groups set up, such as Young Carers, to offer additional support.
Last year I gained my qualification as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA). I work very closely with the Inclusion Leader and where appropriate involve the school nurse, Family Outreach Worker and other external agencies to provide support and advice for the whole family on a wide range of issues.
Together, the whole school community aims to provide a safe and happy working environment for all pupils so that they can achieve their best and have a positive contribution to school and community life.
My door is always open, so if you would like to talk to me about any concerns or worries you may have, please come and find me in the playground or call/email to make an appointment.
